Case Studies (normalised)

Good planning matters to successful SME growth – and to the creation of new regional jobs and wealth.

Planning raises the spectre of thick business plans in shiny folders gathering dust on shelves. Our case studies show quite different approaches ranging from the deliberate to the almost spontaneous.

In one case, an owner was almost entirely tactical snapping up opportunities as they went past but rejecting almost all of those which didn’t meet simple return on investment criteria.

In another, planning focused on the alignment of different family businesses and successful generational change – a strategic and architectural approach taking several years.

These case studies are based on three recent regional accelerator programs and explore the different sorts of planning which businesses can employ and which work. As we demonstrate, planning needs to suit the temperament of the owner and the type of businesses involved.
